What the Cup Marks Mean

An individual undergoing cupping treatment. What do the cup marks mean?

Dear Friends,

Wanting to wish you all a wonderful couple of Holiday weeks ahead!

I also thought I would share with you one of the topics that seems to be so popular at the moment .....  that is, What do the cup marks mean?

For those who are wondering what cupping means, you can read more here, a post I wrote a couple years back.  It is most commonly used when treating the shoulders and back, but can be helpful in a wide variety of issues.

People love cupping, and often there will be remnant marks on the area that last a couple days to a week.  Everyone is always curious what that means, and what the different color marks indicate.

If someone doesn't have a lot of marking, it actually indicates that there is healthy blood circulation through the tissue.  When the cupping is more prominent it shows that there is more stagnation there.  If the color is darker, moving towards purple, it is more significant stagnation in the tissue.  If it is a brighter shade of red, it can indicate some stagnation with an element of heat.

Often stagnation comes from tight muscles restricting blood flow in an area, but can also come from a variety of constitutional factors.  Often after a couple of treatments, the cupping marks will begin to be less pronounced, showing that the micro-circulation and hydration of the tissue has improved.

Wishing you all a wonderful Holiday!

Love,
Kelly
